Petersham North · 1888
A heritage residence · Est. 1888
A late-Victorian mansion of ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces and arched hallways — reimagined as ten private residences and a historic wine cellar all available for short or long term rent in North Petersham the heart of Sydney’s inner west.
Welcome to Milton Mansion Mansion
Milton Mansion was built in 1888 from Sydney’s finest available Ironbark and Blackbutt timber, locally kilned brick and Sydney Sandstone. Western Australian Jarrah was used for the grand entryways, hallway floorings and service areas. Milton Mansion was one of the finest mansions in all the inner west and at the time included a large land holding with horse stables.
In 1942 (primarily to accomodate soldiers and their families) Milton Mansion was formerly converted to a residential flat building with 10 flats. Milton Mansion today holds one 3 bedroom penthouse, two studios and seven 1 bedroom apartments as well as three off-street car spaces. Milton Mansion is spread across four levels — including a large four-room wine cellar on the lower ground floor. Its soaring plaster ceilings, arched hallways, tessellated tiles and marble fireplaces are a testament to the craftsmanship of Sydney builders in the late 1800s and similar other significant building exist within the Petersham North Heritage Conservation Area.
